How is it already August?! This year has already flown so fast, with work being so hectic lately the days just fly by. I’m trying to soak up as much summer as I can, but I can’t help getting a little excited for my favorite season. Plus, getting excited about fall makes it easier to deal with the fact that summer is wrapping up. The heat this summer has been so crazy, I’m ready for some cooler mornings and cozy sweaters.
There’s still a whole month of summer left and some more adventures planned, but I can’t help looking ahead. Here’s a few of the things I’m most excited about.
Fall Color Drives
One of my absolute favorite parts about fall is driving around the country and taking in the fall colors. It’s a great way to get out and explore but also stay warm, definitely needed some times! Michigan has the best roads, like Tunnel of Trees, Old Mission Peninsula, and of course M-22. Check out this list from MLive for more inspiration for a little weekend getaway. Pair a great drive with a B&B and some unique restaurants and you have a perfect fall weekend escape.
Cider & Donuts
Pretty sure I look forward to getting cider and donuts all year round. Biting in to warm, sugary donuts is the only way to end a day running around the apple orchard. Obviously, you need hot cider to wash it down. My goal for the season: hit all of the orchards listed by Metro Detroit as must-visit, need to see which one is the best!
Every year we have a tradition of hitting the apple orchards with our best friends, grabbing some donuts and cider, then heading back to watch football and make as many apple recipes as we possibly can. Last year we got through almost all of these from my apple recipes post, but hopefully we can find some more to try out! Any recipe ideas shout them out in the comments below!
Slow Cooker Recipes
I miss chili and my slow cooker, but that is definitely not summer food, so I’ve been saving recipes to try this fall. Some on my list: Slow-Cooker Chicken Burrito Bowls, Chicken Noodle Soup, and this Lo Mein Recipe from Damn Delicious. I’ve also found a few slow cooker recipe books that may or may not be in my Amazon cart at the moment…
Ugh I can’t wait. Hopefully we will be making it out to a few at UofM and back at the alma mater of course, but even watching on Sundays from home is still one of my favorite ways to spend a fall afternoon. Plus all of the great snacks that come along with kickoff is a an extra point (ha!).
We have a few trips planned this fall like Colorado and up north, so I can’t wait to get out and explore more, even when summer is over. Plus even just getting out for a morning hike is still an adventure!
What are you looking forward to this fall?!
