I’m on a health kick lately, not for any losing-weight kind of reason, but just whenever I eat like junk food I usually feel so slow and lazy – garbage in, garbage out!
The main thing is when I’m at work, I’ve really gotten in to a food schedule, I’m sure you do too, and now at 10:30 and 2 I need a snack so my stomach doesn’t rumble loud enough for everyone in a 5 cubicle radius to hear. It’s too easy to go to the vending machine and get candy or chips or have a bag of microwave popcorn (popcorn is great, but microwaveable popcorn has so many chemicals, it’s really not good for you) so I plan ahead and pack healthy alternatives for some of my usual work-cravings, here’s a couple below:
Tea for Coca Cola. Sometimes I need an afternoon pick me up, and the caffeine and carbonation seems too good to pass up, but it’s so awful for you, it is something that should definitely be swapped out. I love yogi teas, all of the ones I have had are so flavorful and delicious, the best is the stress-relief tea or the detox tea. There’s many health benefits to drinking tea daily, I try and have a few cups during the day to help keep me awake, give me antioxidants, and plus the yogi teas are all organic. Right now at my desk I have a great green tea with mint and cocoa in it, it’s a perfect healthy treat.
Veggie Straws for Chips. Honestly I’d rather have veggie straws over chips anyways! They have just the right salt and crunch to help that chip craving. Plus, they’re non-GMO, have sea salt, and are gluten free and if you need another reason – there’s 30% less fat than regular potato chips. Woohoo!
Raisinets for Reese’s Cups. Yeah, this one isn’t as good, but sometimes when I want chocolate that’s the only thing that will help me get over the need. So although raisinets are still a candy, they’re packed with antioxidants – plus they have them in our vending machines. Brookhouse has lots of great version of chocolate-covered fruit that would be a great alternative as well – cranberries, blueberries and raisins too, so lots of options!
Oatmeal for Bagels. I swear people bring in bagels every week, and they’re almost impossible to say no to. Especially in the morning with my coffee, oh gosh, yeah that’s perfect combo. But there’s hundreds of better breakfast alternatives out there that are still as filling as bagels, one of my favorite being oatmeal. I always keep a bag of oatmeal in my desk for when I feel I can’t make it through until lunch. I love putting fresh blueberries or strawberries in it too, so yummy and filling!
What’s your favorite snacks for work?! I just made homemade granola crumbles that I can’t wait to try and share with you!
