Now that there’s snow on the ground I can fully get in the Christmas Spirit. There’s no better way to jump into the season like a holiday tour, strolling outside with some hot cocoa, Christmas music, and beautiful lights. In metro-detroit there’s lots of events or locations to get you in the spirit.
Lake Orion is home to Canterbury Village, a cute little shopping center/castle. The village is a perfect location to get in the Christmas spirit, visit Yates cider mill for some hot cider and stroll through the grounds, checking out the holiday decor stores, carousel, and unique antique treasures throughout. Then go to The Pub for lunch and a drink.
This annual event has some of the best Christmas lights in the area. For almost 30 nights, the Detroit Zoo opens up in the evening to show off 5 million LED lights throughout the front of the zoo. Plus the carousel will be open as well! Tickets are $10 in advance and $13 at the door. Their Zoo Brew is one of our favorite events, I’m excited to check this out too!
Head up to Michigan’s little Bavaria to get in the Christmas spirit this year. Pick out some new ornament’s at Bronners, explore the little shops of downtown, check out the Old Christmas Station restaurant, and you have to see the Silent Night Memorial Chapel. I mean, its as voted one of the most Christmassy towns in the country by Time Magazine for a reason, right!?
We haven’t gotten a chance to go yet this year, but the rink at Campus Martius is a great place to spend a Saturday, skating under the lights and around such a giant Christmas tree. Another great part about the rink, it’s open until March, so there’s a lot of time to make it around!
